One of the first major event for me was the meeting with Luc Baiwir. In 2001, I sent him, without knowing him, one CD with a dozen of my compositions. Some days later, I sent him an e-mail to which he answered very quickly. We then began to e-mail quite often. Some times later, we met each other. And he talked me about the World Festival of Undewater Pictures, in Antibes, France (http://www.underwater-festival.com). In the context of this festival, an international composition competition is organized.
That year, the theme is « Diving in Canada, from Gaspé Peninsula to St. Lawrence ». Coincidence ? I was to spend 3 weeks in Canada that summer ! And walking around those marvellous colored and varied landscapes along St. Lawrence River, I wrote «Nydhis».
This music is made of three parts : Empress of Ireland, Immersion and Lueur. It won the first prize (François de Roubaix Prize) at the World Festival of Underwater Pictures (Antibes) in November 2001.
During this festival, I meet Danny Van Belle who presents his first film (The most beautiful camouflages). Since then, I wrote the music for all his films, among which « The world of gastropods », which won, in November 2004, the Palme d’Or at the Antibes Festival.
In 2004, again in Antibes, I meet Michael AW, diver, photographer and videomaker. After having heard the Danny Van Belle film music, he ask me to write the music for the opening ceremony of a festival he was the organizer of : Celebrate the sea (www.celebratethesea.oneocean.com). Mid-May 2005, he invited me as a jury member and asked me to perform two concerts in Singapore.
